The Longest Five Minutes is a RPG game published by Nippon Ichi Software, NIS America released on February 13, 2018 for the PlayStation Vita.
Another niche RPG from NIS that plays on the trope of the amnesiac hero in many JRPG character backstories….except the hero developed his sudden amnesia at the final boss battle itself, which really screws things up.
The hero (Flash Back) must recover his memories of his journey while trying to just stay alive.
Over the course of the boss battle, Flash Back will have, well, flashbacks to events in the past that usually answers some basic questions or give him important information that helps stall the fight (such as special abilities, protective treasures, etc). These flashback episodes play like standard JRPG fare with dungeons but they’re really short and self-contained, meaning any loot you get doesn’t really do anything outside of that episode.
Overall, the game is really more story focused and all the bosses other than the final one are pretty easy to steamroll but it’s still worth playing for the story. As cliche as it was, it was still decent. The music is actually good considering this is a low budget game and they didn’t resort to 8 bit music.
