Atelier Meruru Plus: The Apprentice of Arland is a RPG game published by Gust, Koei Tecmo Games released on September 4, 2013 for the PlayStation Vita.
Atelier Meruru Plus is a remake of Atelier Meruru, which debuted on the PS3. It is the 13th game in the Atelier series and the 3rd game in the Arland trilogy
Atelier Series Description
The Atelier games are a series of “crafting” time management RPGs where you gather materials from the field and monsters and use them to synthesize a variety of items via alchemical reactions. The synthesis system, although simple in practice, gives you a decent amount of customization on your items. Throughout the game, you will be obtaining better materials, which you will then use to make and remake items for better effects.
Every few months, you will be given assignments where you turn in specific items or perform the main goal given along with a bunch of sub goals that you should complete for maximum benefits.
Other than that, the game is pretty open world. You gather and craft, gather and craft, rinse and repeat. And trigger events to interact with the other characters in town.
If you want some CHALLENGE, there are some optional bosses that require alot of preparation to defeat in late and post game.
Here’s an example from Atelier Meruru on the PS3
Atelier Meruru Plus Description
The final game in the trilogy and, in my opinion, the best game of the three. This was the 2nd game to be remade in Japan and it retains alot from the PS3 version with some slight improvements. Rorona Plus is the one that got updated to this since it came after.
The story takes place 6 years after Atelier Totori. Totori is 19 years old . Rorona… I’ll leave the surprise for you. Sterk is old as fuck at 39 years old.
Meruru is the princess of a far-away rural kingdom called Arls, who’s king wishes to merge its kingdom with the Republic of Arland (the previous kingdom from Rorona/Totori abolished its monarchy in the time between the first and second game) in three years time.
Meruru doesn’t really care about the politics and often sneaks out of the castle to have fun. She’s recently taken up an interest in alchemy and visits the town’s alchemist, Totori, to learn more about the subject. Her father decides she can practice alchemy under the condition that she uses it to further develop the kingdom before the merger.
A unique addition to the game’s battle system is Meruru’s Assist skills aren’t attacks
but, instead, she can reuse the item she had just used before the normal Assist attack chain. It’s what’s shown in the video.
What’s shown above is 2 normal Assist attacks (1 gauge each) -> Power Assist (Meruru) -> Compound Assist Attack (Both allies both need to have another 1 gauge for this) -> Potentialize (Meruru)
You need Power Assist and/or Potentialize to do this combo though.
The criteria for a full Potentialize combo is:
- At least 3 uses of the item stack
- 2 assist gauges for the other 2 characters each
- Knowing the two skills
